Loving yourself and caring for yourself is the greatest gift you can give to yourself and to your loved ones as well.

We are not able to give true, unconditional love to other people before we start loving ourselves the way we are.

It is also difficult to care for other people when we neglect ourselves and our own needs.

Imagine if everyone would love themselves and care for themselves how suddenly all the relationships on this planet would shift.

There wouldn’t be jealousy towards other people, because everyone would accept themselves and others the way they are.

At the same time, shame around their own past mistakes would be eliminated, because everyone would be aware of the fact that making mistakes and learning from them to grow is part of being alive.

All relationships would be more heart-based and formed from a place of infinite love and none from a place of neediness.

13 SELF LOVE TIPS TO IMPROVE YOUR LIFE IMMEDIATELY

I truly believe that loving ourselves can shift our relationships with one another.

It can make our relationship more peaceful and balanced. 

1. NOURISH YOUR BODY (healthy food + exercise)

Ever seen a 70+-year-old who looked like someone else at the age of 50+?

It might be in the genes you may say, but it´s definitely also the outcome of lifestyle in form of healthy food and exercise.

Mimi Kirk and Annette Larkins both ladies far above 70 years keep themselves healthy on a raw vegan diet and regular exercise for decades.

Norman Walker knew the benefits of a raw plant-based diet already nearly 100 years ago and published his first book Become Younger in 1949!

Changing from a regular diet to a raw vegan one might be quite challenging and not what you desire.

You don’t have to! The key point I want to make here is that it’s important that you are mindful of the things you eat because these become literally a part of your body and will influence your health.

I personally am not on a raw vegan diet either but switched to a plant-based diet 8 years ago with the goal to eat healthier and am still sticking to it.

How come eating healthy food is such a huge factor in the quality of our lives?

This is based on the fact that we are truly what we eat.

Our blood and our body cells receive the nutrition we take up with the food and they work with whatever they get.

If we give our body crappy food that’s what our blood and cells receive to work with.  

Our skin changes every 2 to 3 weeks by replacing old skin cells with new ones formed by the nutrition we take up with our food.

New red blood cells are formed every 100 days in our bodies and our cells in the body replace themselves completely approx. every 7 years.

Therefore our body is an ever-changing organism influenced by the nutrition we fuel it with.

Your body is the temple for your mind and for your soul.

If you want to love yourself and live an amazing life:

Nourish your body with healthy food and regular exercise.

2. NOURISH YOUR MIND (self-development)

My self-love tip number 2 is to make regular time for your self-development.

I believe that we all need a self-defined purpose to live a fulfilled, happy life.

You might have heard of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs pyramid.

If not I give you a brief introduction to it.

According to Maslow’s pyramid of human needs, the foundation for all human needs is physiological needs (shelter, food, water) followed by safety & security, love & belonging, and self-esteem.

The top of the pyramid is the level of self-actualization.

My self-love tip number 2 is to dig into the core of self-actualization.

No one else in this world can tell you what you should do to live a fulfilled life!

Tips and guidelines are awesome, however, it will be only you who can find out what you truly want in life.

Love yourself enough to nourish your mind by taking your time for self-development and finding out your true purpose, develop your full potential, and realize your dreams.

3. NOURISH YOUR SOUL (faith + spirituality)

This self-love tip is all about nourishing your soul in form of a prayer or spiritual practice.

Having faith in the greater, unseen positive energy which flows through all of us can be a helpful way to stay grounded in challenging times of life.

Reconnecting with this positive source of light on a regular basis helps our souls to stay grounded and to shine.

Give your beautiful soul the attention it deserves.

Choose the practice whatever fits you best, may it be through prayers or through deep meditations.

4. DON´T COMPARE YOUR LIFE TO SOMEONE ELSE’S JOURNEY

We all are on our individual journey here on earth but we are all facing the same emotions in life.

Facing difficulties, challenges, loss, gratefulness, heartache, love, fear, frustration, hope, desperation, joy, sadness, anger, kindness, compassion – just to name a few.

Therefore even if it feels as we were separated from each other and are so different we truly aren’t.

Someone’s Instagram looks so gorgeous while your life sucks?

Well, I guarantee that their life sucks at some point, too.

My self-love tip number 4, therefore, is to focus on your journey without comparing it to someone else’s.

5. TREAT YOURSELF THE WAY YOU WANT TO BE TREATED

Stop looking for the right person to complement your needs.

Be the person you want to have in your life!

Take your time to find out who you are and what you want.

Besides, treat yourself the way you want to be treated

Stay true to yourself and do what makes you happy.

6. TALK TO YOURSELF AS YOU WOULD TALK TO YOUR DEAREST FRIEND

From time to time pay close attention to your self-talk.

What chatter is going on in your mind?

Is it supportive and loving or destructive and mean?

Whenever you catch yourself telling yourself something destructive or mean remind yourself that you alone have the power over your thoughts.

You can change what you think.

Change the destructive mean chatter to a cheerful, uplifting thought.

Talk to yourself the same way you would talk to your dearest friend.

I personally find meditation the best way to observe my thoughts so I can change my inner chatter.

7. LEARN TO SAY NO AND TO SET HEALTHY BOUNDARIES

Are you always doing what you love to do, or are you sometimes also doing things because it’s expected from you or just because you want to be nice and liked?

Pay close attention to why you are doing things the way you are doing and start to set healthy boundaries whenever necessary.

Whenever someone asks you to do something you are not ready to do, because it would result for you in more stress – simply say no to it.

Be confident in saying no to the things you don’t care about and more often yes to the things that really matter to you.

8. BE PATIENT WITH YOURSELF

Be aware of the fact that we all are humans and none of us is perfect.

Everything takes time to develop and to flourish.

May it be a new habit you want to develop or a goal you want to achieve.

Go consistently for your dreams and be compassionate and patient with yourself at the same time.

9. LET GO OF CONTROL

Know what you can control and let go of what you can’t.

The things you can control are your:

  • thoughts
  • words
  • emotions
  • actions

Everything which is based outside of your own mind is out of your control.

Don’t even try to change it.

Let go of trying to control everything located outside of your mind.

Start looking inward instead by observing your thoughts through meditation and by changing your inner chatter.

10. SPOIL YOURSELF AT LEAST 1x PER WEEK

Make it a habit to develop a self-care day or at least a few hours per week for yourself.

Exclusively to nurture your body, mind, and soul. 

Develop a ritual that suits you best!

You don’t necessarily have to go to a spa, you can turn your home into a spa!

Manicure, pedicure, face mask, bubble bath, meditation, a relaxing fragrance, hot tea, and a great book.

It can be as simple as that.

11. SAY NO TO TOXIC RELATIONSHIPS

Examine how you feel after having contact with certain people in your life.

Does it recharge and energize you or drain and frustrate you?

If it’s constantly the latter with certain people in your life it might be a good idea to rethink your relationships and to refrain from these toxic relationships.

12. START A HAPPINESS JOURNAL

Which situations in your life made you feel happy and truly fulfilled?

Make a list in your journal about all the things in your past where you felt an extreme emotion of happiness and fulfillment.

Keep this list. Whenever you feel down take it out, read it and go into your memory and relive the feeling of happiness and joy again.

By practicing this exercise you might notice at one point that only you are the creator of your own happiness.

What we focus on in our minds grows.

13. FIND YOUR PASSION AND FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS

What are you truly passionate about in life?

What charges you with energy, lightness, and joy?

Are you already living your full potential?

What are your dreams you want to turn into reality?
