WHAT IS THE IMPOSTER SYNDROME

Did you ever felt like a fraud after accomplishing something great?

Got a good grade @ University for a subject you have barely studied for and started to question yourself and your abilities?

Landed a great job and immediately thought that you don´t deserve it?

People who are suffering under the imposter syndrome feel intimidated by their own success.

They start questioning themselves and criticizing their abilities whenever they are successful in life.

  • I don´t deserve this
  • It must be a mistake
  • This can´t be true
  • I can´t do this
  • They probably have confused me with someone else

These are just some thoughts imposters like to think after they accomplished sth awesome.

Besides thinking they don´t deserve what they accomplished they have a massive fear of being exposed by others as a fraud.

Even though they did everything by themselves they feel like a fraud.

If this sounds familiar to you, you might suffer under the imposter syndrome.

No worries it´s not a psychological disorder.

In fact, around 70% of the US population experiences at least once in their lifetime this feeling, while high achievers and in particular women are more affected.

Harvard University has employed counselors to help their students talk about the imposter. They experienced a huge number of graduates visiting their offices who were seeking help because they felt like frauds.

An increased self-doubt and fear of failure can lead to the imposter syndrome. Go back to day 3 and learn about the fear of failure here.

Self-sabotage and the constant fear of being detected as a fraud is the consequence.

Staying in the comfort zone, striving for less and not living out the full potential are the downsides of being an imposter.
