PROGRESS OVER PERFECTION

Are you struggling with perfectionism?

What if I tell you that perfectionism will stop you from going for your dreams and reaching your goals. 

It´s hard to hear, but it´s actually true.

All successful people on this planet who went for their dreams were ready to just do it instead of holding themselves back and trying to be perfect.

They failed a few times before they made it happen.

They most probably had the same thoughts as you do today, but chose progress over perfection.

I know the struggle because I’ve been a perfectionist myself.

WHY DO WE WANT TO BE PERFECT? 

We are longing for appreciation from other people and try to be perfect to be loved by others.

At our core, we all long for connection and want to be loved and appreciated.

We choose perfection over progress.

But perfection is a myth – it simply doesn´t exist.

There is no such thing as perfect.

Or have you ever met a perfect human?

Me neither. 

The underlying feeling which drives us to be perfect is FEAR.

WHAT ARE WE AFRAID OF WHEN WE TRY TO BE PERFECT? 

5 possibilities are:

  • we fear to fail
  • we fear to be judged
  • we fear to be rejected
  • we fear to be criticized
  • we fear to disappoint other people

All of these fear-based thoughts go back to the limiting belief of ourselves of not being good enough as we are.

WHY IS IT A PROBLEM TRYING TO BE PERFECT?

As already mentioned perfection doesn´t exist.

Whenever we try to be perfect we start to:

  • procrastinate
  • get distracted more easily
  • start to doubt ourselves
  • make excuses why we aren´t moving forward
  • stop progressing towards our goals

Perfection gets us stuck in the situation and hinder us from being productive.

We hold ourselves back and stop moving towards our dreams.

WHAT´S THE SOLUTION?

Instead of trying to be perfect and overwhelming yourself with a thing that is not achievable, you could just recognize that doing your best effort is good enough.

And choosing progress over perfection.

Knowing that you can always improve along the way.

You should not settle for something you don´t believe in but acknowledge your effort and worth.

Even when you feel completely terrified to do something that will bring you closer to your dream, do it anyway.

Discomfort is part of realizing your dreams.
