I`m going to explain in this 5 PART MINDSET SERIES why your mind is probably the only real limit you have in your life.
It all boils down to your thoughts and to your limiting beliefs about yourself.
You will learn in this series different limiting beliefs.
The purpose of this 5 part mindset series is to become aware of your limiting beliefs and to know what you can do to overcome them.
It´s important to detect which limiting beliefs you have because they are hidden in our unconscious mind and are most of the time the reason for not moving forward, self-sabotage and feeling stuck.
WHAT ARE SELF LIMITING BELIEFS
We all have limiting beliefs and they hold us back from living our full potential and from reaching our dreams.
Our limiting beliefs about ourselves and about our abilities.
They are not just plain thoughts, but deeply rooted beliefs anchored in our unconscious mind, distorted by our own perception of reality.
NO.1 LIMITING BELIEF MOST PEOPLE FACE IN LIFE
We are all born as little babies full of curiosity and embrace the world and our surroundings with pure positivity.
Our core beliefs including limiting beliefs are formed in early childhood between the age of 0 – 7 years.
We observe our surroundings and absorb all information like a sponge and form our core beliefs according to our perception in early childhood.
Later on, we grow up, but these beliefs are staying and are influencing us throughout our entire lifetime from the unconscious level of our minds.
Certainly, we all have some kind of limiting beliefs because none of us humans is perfect.
The people we were learning from weren´t perfect either and they might have said something negative to you as a child.
- You are not old enough to do it
- You are not smart enough to do it
Or something along the line. Besides receiving negative input we also might have misinterpreted simple things in our early childhood.
Our parents might have yelled at us as a child because we did something which was in their eyes dangerous.
But we didn´t know what danger is because we haven´t experienced it before and might have misinterpreted the yelling with “something is not ok with me”.
It might have happened a few times and the limiting belief of “I´m not good as I am” was formed.
The belief of not being enough is one of the most common limiting beliefs affecting us humans.
With the advertisements, we see on billboards and with perfect appearing women in magazines and in the tv this belief can be unconsciously triggered and strengthened.
I am not enough can come in different forms:
- I´m not smart enough
- I´m not tall enough
- I´m not pretty enough
- I´m not slim enough
- I´m not strong enough
- I´m not confident enough and so on..
I think you get the idea.
THE PROBLEM WITH LIMITING BELIEFS
With our conscious mind, we perceive things, plan and act.
The problem with limiting beliefs is, that we can´t grasp them with our conscious mind.
Our beliefs are hidden in our unconscious mind and limit us from there on a daily basis.
This means we plan our goals and are ready to tackle them but can´t move forward towards our goals because our self-limiting thoughts and images in our head hold us back.
According to the psychologist Sigmund Freud we can imagine our mind like an iceberg.
Our conscious mind where we plan and act is just the tip of the iceberg above the ocean while the part underneath the ocean makes the largest portion of the iceberg and represents our unconscious mind with our core beliefs.
We act and operate from the unconscious level most of the time.
The decisions we make with our conscious mind are influenced by our unconscious mind.
You set yourself the goal to write a book, but are not able to reach this goal or even to get started because your limiting beliefs about yourself are holding you back.
- I can´t do that
- I´m not a good writer
- I have no talent
- It´s impossible for me to write a book
- I´ve never been good at writing
- My teacher told me I suck at writing etc
Whatever your dream and therefore your goals might be you will experience limiting beliefs around it coming from your unconscious mind.
You have to overcome your limiting beliefs before you can tackle your goals.
Don´t let your mind limit your actions towards your goal.
HOW TO GET RID OF SELF LIMITING BELIEFS
The step number one in overcoming limiting beliefs is to detect them.
1. DETECT YOUR LIMITING BELIEFS
Pay attention to your thoughts, inner chatter, and images in your head.
What are you telling yourself and which images are you making up in your head when it comes to thinking about your goal?
If it´s something negative it´s probably because you have some limiting beliefs around it.
2. CHANGE YOUR INNER CHATTER AND IMAGES
Once you recognize your personal limiting belief you can do something about it.
Either you can work on it by yourself and replace your limiting belief by positive encouraging words and positive images or you can hire a coach or hypnotherapist helping you to take action on getting rid of your limiting beliefs.
3. DISSOLVE 1 LIMITING BELIEF AFTER THE OTHER
Work on your limiting beliefs one by one.
If your limiting beliefs are connected to the perception of your self-worth and your identity it might probably take a bit longer and you might even need to find a therapist to get this fixed.
4. START WITH I AM ENOUGH
Assuming that you don´t have major self-worth issues, but still want to boost your self-confidence and practice self-love, books and coaches are my number one go-to source.
One book I want to emphasize is I am enough written by the well known Transformational Hypnotherapist Marisa Peer. She has established a huge list of clients over the past 25 years and coached from rock stars to royalty, Hollywood celebrities to CEO of multi-billion businesses.
I personally haven´t read this book but got a coaching from her on the very same topic. The content of her coaching I´ve received and this book is very similar.
So if you don´t want to spend hundreds of $$$ on coaching right away and still take action, you can get started with this wonderful book for a small fraction of the price.
You can get this book here.
1. LIMITING BELIEFS KEEP YOU STUCK
They are most certainly the root of not realizing your dreams and not going for your goals.
2. SELF LIMITING BELIEFS ARE UNCONSCIOUS
You can´t grasp them with your conscious mind. They are deeply connected to feelings and thoughts established in your early childhood.
3. WE ALL HAVE SELF LIMITING BELIEFS
None of us is perfect. Therefore we all have life experiences which lead to establishing self-limiting beliefs.
4. THERE ARE SEVERAL LIMITING BELIEFS HOLDING US BACK FROM GOING FOR OUR DREAMS
The main limiting belief most of the humans face is the belief of “not being enough”
5. YOU CAN GET RID OF LIMITING BELIEFS THROUGH MINDSET WORK
Getting rid of limiting beliefs is mindset work. It won´t disappear overnight, but you can actively do something to change your perception and transform your life.7
