10 THINGS YOU SHOULD DO BEFORE YOU LAUNCH YOUR BLOG
For a soul-based blog and online business, you need to know the why behind your blog.
What drives you to get started with blogging?
What’s your why?
What is the passion that will move you through your low and dark times in your blogging career?
You won’t always feel motivated to blog and to work on your online business.
There will be times where you just want to throw in the towel and call it a day with your blogging biz.
To really succeed online you need to be like an athlete and have stamina.
You will fail and that’s ok because it’s part of the game of growing and evolving as a person and as a business.
There’ll be people mean to you and that’s ok as well.
You are not a chocolate bar, you can’t make everyone happy.
What you need to push through all obstacles coming your way is an internal driving force.
A force which keeps you moving forward even though you feel like giving up.
What is this unshakeable reason, your reason, your personal why behind your blog / online business?
After knowing your reason, the why behind your online business next is to find out what you are passionate about.
What are you loving so much that you can imagine talking about it for years to come?
What are you passionate about the most?
You can start a blog / online biz and change your path along the way.
However, it’s easier to get started right from the beginning with the topic you are most passionate about.
It’ll be easier for you to write about it and to talk about it all the time.
Knowing your reason, your passion is great but what is the purpose of your blog?
Who do you want to reach?
What do you want to teach?
What is your blog about?
Are there actually people interested in the topic you are going to talk about?
You can go into Facebook groups related to your passion and see what people are talking about?
Are people talking about this topic at all?
Do they have questions where you have the answers to?
How can you help?
How can you deliver value to other people with your online presence?
Who exactly are these people you want to help?
You can’t help everyone.
Who is your blog for?
Who can you relate to the most?
Do they have a problem you have all the answers to, because you’ve been in their shoes before and know how to solve it?
These are certainly your people.
To succeed with any business online you need to be consistent.
You can’t just throw up a few articles on your blog and think that’s a business.
Constant learning and tweaking will be required.
There will be different strategies needed for each stage of your online business.
You need different strategies to hit 1k, 10k, 100k and 1million.
One major part to hit anything in near future is to be consistent with blogging.
How often are you able to write and publish a blog post within the first year.
Be realistic and honest with yourself.
If it’s once per months it’s ok, twice per months or weekly it’s ok as well.
The main thing here is that whatever you decide you’ll be consistent with it.
Being consistent is good for your audience and for SEO purposes as well.
What is the strategy you are planning to use to drive traffic to your new blog?
People won’t magically find and follow you.
You have to go, get out there and show the world that your blog is alive.
There are millions of blogs out there.
The online space is crowded probably thousands of people have already a blog you want to start.
You need good strategies in place to get traffic to your blog.
There are several ways you can drive traffic to your new blog.
Whether you are aware of the fact that you are a personal brand or not let me tell you now → you are a personal brand.
You show a certain image to the world in the way of how you dress up, how you talk, what you eat, how you behave, how you spend your free time etc.
Without meeting people in real life it’s not so easy to assess how they really are in life.
You can help people get to know you better by consciously branding yourself online.
Are you a more of an extrovert or an introvert, do you like using swear words or are you more relaxed?
How are you in real life and how can you transfer that to your online presence?
You don’t have to show all facets of your personality, probably that’s not even possible.
But you can show a part of your authentic self so people have the chance to get to know you better.
8.SET UP YOUR WEBSITE
After you know all of these steps it’s time to start creating your website.
Nowadays you can already start a website and have web hosting for the price of a latte. For example with Siteground, the exact web hosting I’m using for this blog.
I highly recommend not starting your blog on a free hosting platform.
Unless you want to look unprofessional and have a crappy looking website.
9.HAVE A PLAN
Having a plan is a must in life.
Not only as a blogger but as a person who wants to create life intentionally, a plan is unavoidable.
Please know that blogging is and always will be a learning process and needs continuous improvement.
The internet world changes quickly and so do also algorithms on all social media platforms.
Blogging is not like learning how to ride a bike.
Once learned and know it forever.
Being successful in the online world is dependent on the ability of how much you are willing to invest in your business with your time, energy and money.
Be a life long learner also when it comes to your blogging career and you should be fine.
Having said that it’s a good idea to have a plan on your goals and strategies on how you are going to reach them.
I personally started using this year the Slay your goals planner for breaking down my long term goals into short term tasks. I use this printable planner for my personal and for my business goals as well.
After having all the steps in place it’s time to create content for your blog.
Make sure to have a few (I’d suggest at least) 10 posts up on your blog before launching your blog.
Keep in mind your target reader and focus on how you are going to help them.
To come up with good content people are actually also searching for you can use google trends.
This tool will show how your topic is actually doing.
Use also the Pinterest search bar to find relevant keywords people are actually searching for.
You want your content to be found and not wasting your time creating content no one is interested in reading it.
KNOW THAT IT’S GOING TO BE TOUGH
I touched upon this earlier but wanted to share it here again.
Know that blogging and having an online business is tough.
It’s an amazing way to work and I truly love it.
However, I don’t want you to start blogging with false expectations.
Seeing all these famous bloggers out there earning 6 and 7 figures with their blogs can be misleading.
It didn’t happen overnight, they worked for it hard and the majority of bloggers out there aren’t making a dime or hardly any money.
If you are ready to get started to do it- You have all my support.
I happily show you how to set up your blog, how to drive traffic to it and how to master your mind to keep yourself motivated.
All tools I recommend and mention in this post at a glance:
- Siteground is hosting site I use and recommend. You can set up your site for the price of a latte every month.
- Slay your goals planner is the printable planner you can use to break down your big goals into actionable steps.
