I’m fascinated by branding since I heard about it in my business administration class at the university in 2009.
Parallel to my studies working at Louis Vuitton back than just strengthened my interest in branding.
Did you know that Louis Vuitton was the first company ever that used branding within the fashion industry to distinguish themselves from other companies?
Before that only cattle were branded in the fields to distinguish them from each other.
Anyways working for Louis Vuitton inspired me to write my bachelor thesis about luxury brand management in 2012.
In 2019 I have written my master thesis about personal branding.
In this post, I’m solely focusing on personal branding.

WHY YOU SHOULD BUILD YOUR PERSONAL BRAND
Personal branding is unavoidable if you want to make an impact online or offline in your career, as a business owner, blogger or as an influencer.
There are several reasons why you should strive to build your personal brand.
First and foremost it will highlight your strengths and uniqueness to your audience and will help you set yourself apart from your peers and from your competition.
This way you can more easily collaborate with your peers and complement each other’s work.
It is also more difficult for copycats to copy your products and services because even if they do so no one can ever copy you.
You are one of a kind and that’s your super-power!
With personal branding, you highlight this exact uniqueness that makes you – you.
Finding and highlighting your uniqueness as your strength is what will set yourself apart from others and make you more interesting for cooperations and will helps you to become uncopyable.
ATTRACT THE RIGHT AUDIENCE
As a small business owner or as a blogger, strategic personal branding will help you draw the right audience to you.
As an influencer, it will help you attract brands that align with your vision.
At the same time, it will repel all the people and all the other brands who aren’t in resonance with your personal brand.
HAVE A CLEAR STANDPOINT
Attracting and repelling is a good thing as it helps not only save you time but you also save the time of the people who aren’t interested in what you have to offer by being clear about who you are and what you stand for.
Think for example of Greta Thunberg.
You probably have heard of her before and know either exactly or have at least and idea what she stands for and the ideals she represents.
Certain associations may come into your mind when you think of her.
She has a clear standpoint and a strong personal brand that attracts and repels.
The same goes for people like Elon Musk or Kim Kardashian.
You either like him/her or you don’t.
The goal is not to be liked by everyone but to attract the right people to you.
The people who have similar goals and ideals as you do.
So you can build a relationship with them.
CONNECT WITH PEOPLE
Personal branding is not only important today but according to scientists, it will be even more important in the future with the rise of artificial intelligence.
With the growth of digitalization people will automatically crave more authentic, human connections again.
Being crystal clear about who you are and what you stand for will make it easier for people to connect with you.
Your uniqueness is a gift.
Highlighting this uniqueness will make it easier for people to decide whether they want to connect with you or not.
KNOW LIKE TRUST
People who decide to connect with you can get to know you.
Once they know you, they’re either going to like you and you become somewhat like a friend to them or they don’t like you.
Knowing and liking someone is the start of any good relationship.
And that’s what you are doing when you build a soulful business.
When your audience knows and likes you, and you build a relationship with them they are likely also going to trust you.
Think of your family members, friends and people who you are following online.
The ones you know and like you probably also trust.
Knowing, liking, and trusting someone is the foundation for a good relationship.
That’s why it’s crucial for personal brands only to recommend things to their audience that they would also recommend to their family members and friends.
BUILD YOUR TRIBE
When you have a good relationship with your friends offline or online you can build your tribe with like-minded people.
You probably have similar things you like and dislike and similar goals you are striving for.
We all want to belong to something bigger than we are.
Think of baseball fans, soccer fans, etc.
These are also tribes of like-minded people.
You can build your tribe around the topic that matters to you and to your audience most.
A topic you want to talk about with your friends.
For me personally it’s empowering women to build their dream lives and dream businesses without sacrificing too much time with their loved ones.
